Companies contact you
They reply by phone, text or email to ask questions and offer a quote or a visit. Each company sets its own schedule, and we can't promise when, or whether, a company will respond. Cold snaps tend to fill calendars.

What helps companies quote accurately
A few details in the form save a round of phone calls and get the first number closer to the final one.
- What the door is doing. Won't open, won't close, loud bang, crooked, off the track, grinding, opener hums or clicks, light blinking. If you heard a bang before it stopped working, say so. That usually points to a spring.
- The door's rough age. "Original to a 2004 house" helps. So does the opener brand if you can see it on the motor.
- Single or double door. Size and weight drive spring and cable prices. Mention insulation, windows or a wood-look overlay.
- Whether a car is stuck inside. Companies can prioritize when they know someone can't get to work.
- Torsion or extension springs, if you know. A spring on a bar above the door is torsion; springs along the side tracks are extension. Look, but don't touch.
- Photos, later. A company may ask for a picture of the springs, the track or the opener label by text. It often helps them bring the right parts.
- Your town and ZIP. It tells companies whether you're in their area. For a new door, it also decides which building department and HOA rules apply.
Before anyone comes out
For repairs over $25, Ohio rules generally require the company to let you choose a written, oral or no estimate before work starts, and to tell you up front about trip, service-call or diagnostic charges (Ohio Adm. Code 109:4-3-05). Ask for a written estimate and an itemized bill.
Torsion springs store enough energy to cause serious injury. Leave spring and cable work to a trained technician. If the door is stuck, leave it where it is, keep people clear, and pull the opener's release cord only if the door is fully closed.
Some local companies offer evening, weekend or emergency service, often at a higher rate (Fixr: +$100–$300). Mention urgency on your request and ask about after-hours fees.
